Health Insurance: A Necessary Evil

Posted by Marcus on April 27, 2011

For someone working in the field of medical insurance, the subject is ripe with conflict and emotion. As in all situations that affect people on a personal level, there are always several sides to every story and various points of view, and most of the time, they are all valid to some degree.

Often, consumers get irate with their insurance companies because of the cost of their visits. What they fail to address, however, is how the providers contribute to this cost. Providers are charging more and more for procedures and more and more for line items that can hardly be classified as formal procedures. Unfortunately, there is enough blame to go around for everyone.

There are different avenues that consumers can explore to help reduce their cost of insurance. They can use urgent care centers instead of emergency rooms, they can attend their annual physicals, they can enroll in H.S.A. accounts and consistently put money aside, they can take advantage of mail order and generic only prescription programs, and they can investigate putting young members on individual policies.

Education truly is key in the world of insurance. With more education on all levels, the volatility of this subject could be greatly reduced.
